Hello beautiful friends,
Let’s travel Canada together <3
It’s been a while since I’ve shared about my travels. Traveling is like a beautiful drug for me; one of my favourite places on earth is an airport… yup, quite simply the airport. There are so many reasons as to why airports fascinate me – everyone has a story and a destination. Some people are travelling to see the love of their life, some are travelling to say good-bye to a sick relative, others are travelling to discover themselves on the other side of the planet, and others are simply traveling for business. Each and every person has a story – a destination. Millions of stories can be told at an airport – each one unique in it’s own way, yet so beautiful, raw and honest.
I have been blessed with incredible experiences and opportunities to travel. I have mostly travelled around the United States of America, the Caribbean, Europe and South America. I must confess that with my travel experience, I have hardly seen Canada… my own country. So when Jonathan and I had time off at the end of May we were contemplating between an international vacation or a West Coast road trip around Vancouver Island, BC. We definitely had Hawaii on our mind… it was a pretty close call; but with the price of the US dollar, we happily decided to explore a little bit of our own country.

We travelled WestJet with a direct flight from Toronto to Vancouver. We arrived in Vancouver at 12pm UTC, and got our car rental. God bless Google Maps (I must say, travelling in your own country has some serious benefits… like still being able to use your cell phone provider at no extra cost #bonus).
1:30 pm / Stop on Granville Island for a lovely lunch by the water. We enjoyed a sandwich from A Bread Affair, they serve all organic bread, made with local ingredients & love ! We took a little walk around the island, and then hopped back in the car and headed for Stanley Park (a must do on our list). We rented bikes and explored the park and rode along the beautiful sea wall… It’s absolutely breath taking – be sure to stop and take photos! We rented our bikes from Spokes Bike Rentals, I highly recommend them; very affordable and super friendly customer service.
6:00pm/ check-in to our Airbnb reservation in West Vancouver. It was the most spectacular Airbnb we’ve ever stayed in. Our host was the absolute sweetest. We had a cozy little cabin behind their home – & with the windows open we could hear the natural water fall just behind the cabin. Once we got settled in we took a hot shower, snuck in some quick cuddles and got ready for dinner.
I really REALLY wanted to get sushi for dinner; however we took the advice of our trusty Lonely Planet Travel Book and went to The Flying Pig. In all honesty, it was an absolutely incredible experience – as tired as I was, we had a fabulous dinner. Side note: they were extremely accommodating to my vegetarian meal request. I was able to ask for 3 side dishes as my main meal and they accepted without hesitation. Every time Jonathan took a bite of his meal he kept saying “this is unbelievable”… he ordered the Wild Seafood Pappardelle. To top off our experience, the staff (our waiter in particular) are amazing! Our waiter was the most genuine person that I’ve EVER met in the restaurant industry. I highly suggest checking this place out when you’re in Vancouver!
After an extremely long day of traveling, exploring, bike-riding and eating we were ready to bed. We headed back to our little cabin and had a peaceful night sleep to get us ready for Day 2 of our adventures in BC!
Day 2 is even better and will come in my next post! <3
Have you visited Vancouver? What are your favourite places?
Want to check out other places that I’ve been too?
Lots of love,
Catherine – xo
